PITTSBURGH (September 7, 2005) — Emerson Process Management announced today that it has been awarded a $1.8 million contract to install controls for a new Flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD) system at Unit 3 of Cinergy Corp.’s Gibson Generating Station, near Princeton, Ind. Cinergy will install Emerson’s PlantWeb digital architecture with the Solaris-based Ovation® expert control system, as well as AMS™ Suite asset management software and Rosemount® intelligent field transmitters.

Emerson's Power & Water Solutions industry center will coordinate and supervise the process control system installation at the 3,250-megawatt station, one of the largest fossil-fuel plants in North America. Delivery is scheduled for December 2005.

With this comprehensive automation solution, Cinergy will be able to optimize performance of its new FGD system. Additionally, since the plant’s five 650-megawatt units already are controlled by Emerson distributed control systems, installation of the Ovation FGD controls has the additional benefit of enabling Cinergy to easily integrate the new control system with existing plant controls, further boosting overall plant efficiency.

"The installation of this scrubber is part of Cinergy’s on-going commitment to the environment, and the control system is an important aspect of this project,” said Carl King, senior engineer, Gibson Generating Station. “Having used Emerson controls for a number of years, we are well aware of the operational and cost benefits of these systems.”

"We are pleased to be able to continue our relationship with Cinergy and are gratified by their ongoing confidence in Emerson,” said Bob Yeager, president, Emerson Power & Water Solutions. “We believe Emerson was selected by Cinergy for this project due to benefits delivered by prior use of our distributed systems, our extensive industry experience, and the proven record of increased reliability and availability delivered by the PlantWeb digital plant approach.”
