The Ovation® Engineer Workstation is available in both
a Microsoft® Windows®-based version and a Sun Solaris-based
version. Regardless of which platform you select, the Ovation®
Engineer Workstation offers powerful configuration tools that
allow the user to create, download, and edit process graphics,
control logic, and process point databases. The Engineer Workstation
provides dual functionality as an Operator Workstation.
Ovation® PowerTools on the Sun Solaris-based Engineer
Workstation and the Ovation® Developer Studio on the Microsoft®
Windows®-based Engineer Workstation are fully integrated
sets of advanced software programs used to create and maintain
Ovation® control strategies, process graphics, point records,
I/O placement, report generators, and system-wide configurations.
Both PowerTools and the Developer Studio interact with the
system's embedded relational database management system to
coordinate and maintain a secure master compilation of all
configurations, while allowing easy interconnections with
other plant and business information sources. Included in
these tools are:
- Control Builder - A user-friendly, intuitive, AutoCAD-based
software package that speeds the creation of Ovation®
control strategies and automatically generates executable
code for downloaded to the Ovation controllers.
- Graphics Builder - Enables fast creation and editing
of high-resolution process graphics using standard click
and drag drawing features. Provides color, line, fill, and
shape menus and custom symbol and object libraries.
- Point Builder - Enables users to add, delete, or
modify process points and define I/O parameters associated
with any point. To prevent name duplication, the Point Builder
performs an immediate system-wide check of any added points.
- Point Group Builder - Creates process diagram groups
and trend groups through a common interface.
- I/O Builder - Uses a hierarchical format for adding
and maintaining I/O modules within Ovation®
controllers.
- Security Builder - Provides an interface to create/delete
security functionality for system functions and point data.
- Configuration Builder - Provides the capabilities
to define and maintain the data associated with all Ovation®
system device configurations, including controller parameters.
- Report Builder - Designs and modifies custom report
formats for live values, historical, or file data -- based
on user-defined conditions.
Sun Solaris-Based Engineer Workstation Features:
- Capability to re-use graphics code saves time and ensures
compliance to graphic conventions
- Dual functionality as an Operator Workstation minimizes
hardware costs
- Comprehensive system reference tools and libraries
- Multiple windows allow simultaneous engineering of control,
database and graphics
- Compliant with industry standards Open Database Connectivity/Structured
Query Language (ODBC/SQL)
- System Software Server maintains and distributes files
to all drops though the Ovation system and maintains configuration
of source files
- PowerTools database functions as central repository for
all database points and control execution code on the system.
When points are added, deleted or modified, the PowerTools
database caputres these changes
