The relational database management system (RDBMS) is the
primary means of data control at the heart of the Ovation®
system. Ovation® is the first process control and data
acquisition system to adopt and fully embed this type of data
management system. Aside from real-time and historical process
values, the RDBMS stores every piece of information in Ovation®,
including system configuration, historical storage and retrieval
set-up data, control algorithm information, I/O controller
source and the process database. The Ovation® RDBMS provides
the capability to easily integrate and organize massive amounts
of raw data. All programming tools and Ovation® applications
maintain their data in this centralized and well-defined RDBMS
structure. Run-time information is then distributed to the
control system to allow it to run independently of the Ovation®
relational database.
