AMS™ Suite: Intelligent Device Manager (OV275-WIN)

Prerequisites
Students must have a good understanding of the Ovation system architecture and how database point records are built and maintained in an Ovation Windows-based system. It is recommended that students attend the OV100-WIN course prior to attending this course. Other courses that would be beneficial are OV270-WIN, OV340-WIN and either OV200-WIN-3.0.X or OV200-WIN-3.1.X.

Description
This three-day course provides thorough information on how to configure and use Emerson's AMS™ Suite: Intelligent Device Manager with the Ovation control system. Students will receive hands-on experience in using Ovation and AMS Device Manager to configure smart devices on the Ovation network. Students will also configure and examine Ovation PlantWeb Alerts generated from the smart devices. This course is intended for plant personnel who will configure and troubleshoot the Ovation system and AMS Device Manager.

Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, using the reference material provided, the student will be able to:

1. Understand the basic topology of an Ovation network with an AMS Intelligent Device Manager station on it
2. Recognize AMS Suite software applications
3. Understand AMS Intelligent Device Manager licensing
4. Complete normal AMS Intelligent Device Manager administrative functions
5. Use basic AMS Intelligent Device Manager functions
6. Understand AMS Intelligent Device Manager SNAP-ON capabilities
7. Update AMS Intelligent Device Manager DD files

Course Components

Module 1

• Understand AMS Suite software applications
• Describe AMS Suite topology on an Ovation network
• Understand AMS Intelligent Device Manager communications
• License AMS Intelligent Device Manager

Module 2

• Define an Ovation network to be used with AMS Intelligent Device Manager
• Access AMS Intelligent Device Manager from your Ovation AMS drop
• Change the AMS Intelligent Device Manager password
• View and change security permissions for AMS Intelligent Device Manager
• Understand the AMS Intelligent Device Manager main window
• Edit AMS Intelligent Device Manager options (default settings)
• Modify Ovation network properties in AMS Intelligent Device Manager
• Access the AMS Intelligent Device Manager “Help” information

Module 3

• Update AMS Intelligent Device Manager with newly configured SMART devices on your Ovation network
• View device process variables
• View device diagnostics
• View device configurations
• Modify device configurations

Module 4

• Understand the plant database hierarchy
• Create a plant location database
• Understand device classification used by AMS Intelligent Device Manager
• Assign Ovation connected devices to a plant database area
• Add a conventional device to the plant database
• Assign a spare device to a control module
• Change the assignment of an assigned device in the plant database
• Add a future device to the plant database
• Compare device configurations
• Replace an assigned device with a Spare device
• Create an offline device configuration
• Create a user configuration from a connected SMART device
• Apply an offline device configuration to a device
• Apply a user configuration
• Remove a device completely from AMS Intelligent Device Manager database

Module 5

• View the Audit Trail for the entire system
• View detailed information of an Audit Trail event
• View the Audit Trail for a specific device
• Edit a manual event into the Audit Trail

Module 6

• Access the Alert Monitor
• Configure the Alert Monitor
• VIiew alerts in AMS Intelligent Device Manager
• View device alerts in the Ovation alarm system

Module 7

• Backup the AMS Intelligent Device Manager database
• Restore the AMS Intelligent Device Manager database

Module 8

• Understand the use of Snap-On applications
• Understand device methods

Module 9

• Update AMS Intelligent Device Manager Device descriptor files
