Ovation® SCADA System (OV280-WIN)

  Duration
Four Days

Scheduled Dates

  • April 21-24, 2008

Prerequisites
Students should complete OV100-WIN and OV210-WIN prior to taking this class. Either OV200-WIN-3.0.X or OV200-WIN-3.1.X is also recommended, but not required.

Description
This course will provide the student with the skills to take full advantage of the Ovation® SCADA system. Students will learn the basic components of an Ovation SCADA system. Items discussed will include SCADA servers, remote terminal units, scan blocks, lines, ports, configuration tools, protocol analyzers, and more. Students will establish communications using available Allen-Bradley, MODBUS, or DNP 3.0 protocols. This course is intended for technicians and administrators using the Ovation SCADA system.

Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, using the reference material provided, the student will be able to:

  1. Identify the purpose and components in an Ovation SCADA system
  2. Identify the licensing requirements of an Ovation SCADA system
  3. Use the configuration tool to access and modify the system
  4. Analyze the communication protocols used with an Ovation SCADA system
  5. Utilze the protocol analyzer to interpret signal traffic between the SCADA server and the Remote Terminal Units (RTUs)
  6. Interpret scan block data
  7. Create Ovation graphics to interface to the Ovation SCADA system

Course Components

Module 1

  • Understand the purpose of the Ovation SCADA server
  • Understand the purpose of a Protocol Analyzer
  • Understand the purpose of the SCADA Configuration Tool or SCT

Module 2

  • Load the Ovation SCADA software on an Ovation station
  • Understand the licensing requirements of the SCADA system
  • Understand the different SCADA modules that are required on the SCADA workstation types
  • Identify the different protocols supported by Ovation SCADA

Module 3

  • Access the SCADA Configuration Tool (SCT)
  • Create a new config file
  • Create new SCADA lines, RTUs, scanblocks, and analog/digital/ packed points for use in the SCT
  • Perform consistency checks on SCADA config files
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of problems encountered in SCADA config files
  • Interface a SCADA config file to an Allen Bradley PLC and MODBUS protocol emulator

Module 4

  • Use the SCADA Protocol Analyzer to view communications between the SCADA server and SCADA devices
  • Launch the SCT from the command prompt

Module 5

  • Create Ovation graphics to monitor and modify SCADA status, communications
  • Create Ovation graphics to display SCADA server data and status
  • Use Ovation graphics to do warm and cold restarts and fail or restore SCADA lines
