Duration
Four Days
Scheduled Dates
Prerequisites
Students must have a strong background and understanding of the Ovation® system architecture. Before enrolling in the Ovation Certification course, students are required to have completed the following Ovation Solaris/Unix courses:
It is also recommended, but not required, that students complete the OV250-UNX and OV260-UNX courses if applicable to their particular Ovation system.
Description
The Ovation certification course is a rigorous five-day examination designed to measure a student's proficiency in all aspects of Ovation system administration, configuration and operation. The culmination of an extensive Ovation training regimen (see prerequisites above), this course is designed to ascertain if an individual has acquired the skills and knowledge necessary to successfully load, configure, operate, and administer an Ovation control system. Earning Ovation certification acknowledges the student's expertise in working with Ovation products and technologies and his/her ability to apply acquired knowledge in real-world situations. As part of the examination, students will be required to work independently to build and configure an Ovation system. Tasks will include system loading, configuration, database and control building, graphic design and linkage, report generation and system backup. Students will also be required to troubleshoot problems as they occur. Although this course will be led by an Ovation instructor, students will be required to complete the examination/exercises without significant input from the Emerson training staff.
Students will receive certification upon satisfactory completion of this course. In order to maintain their skills and keep current with software updates, successful students will be entitled to free admittance to future training courses on topics related to Ovation software updates/upgrades. These "software update" courses will be scheduled as new versions of the software are released. Ovation certification will be valid for three years.
Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will receive Ovation certification. This credential affirms that the student is an experienced technical leader with the ability to successfully engineer, administer and maintain an Ovation control system for his/her organization. Upon certification, the student will have an integral knowledge of all aspects of an Ovation system. Each student will be able to design, configure and implement an Ovation system from its component level, demonstrating proficiency in all areas including:
- Loading and licensing the Ovation software server workstation
- Loading and configuring the Ovation controller
- Loading and licensing the historian
- Building, saving and implementing the Oracle database
- Constructing control sheets using both Boolean and analog logic
- Designing graphics with control linkage
- Importing the database into the historian or enterprise historian
- Building and generating historical reports
- Performing procedures to backup the system
Course Components
Module 1
- Assemble workstation and all peripheral devices
- Connect the controller and all cabling to concentrator or switch
- Load workstation with latest version of Solaris and Ovation
- Configure Ovation workstation for proper functionality
- Download workstation and controller and get everything on the highway
- Install the required third-party software (i.e. Autocad and Applix)
- License all required software
Module 2
- Build database with required points of the proper types using the Point Builder
- Configure proper security for the database
- Load the controller and verify points are on the highway
- Create PIC file for collection of necessary points by the Historian
- Verify collection of historical points
Module 3
- Choose the type of control scheme desired for certification (i.e., temp, level, flow, etc.)
- Build the control sheets necessary for this control application using the Control Builder
- Load the controller with new sheets and verify correct functionality
- Demonstrate that control sheets are interconnected through page connector
Module 4
- Design graphic interface to selected control scheme
- Build the graphic with proper functionality using the Graphics Builder
- Download the graphic and test correct operation
- Demonstrate the functionality of all aspects of the control scheme (i.e., auto/man, tracking, etc.)
Module 5
- Verify collection of all control points by the Historian through historical trends
- Design Applix report for displaying both live and historical data
- Build report using Applix software and download report
- Generate report and verify printout for proper layout and data
Module 6
- Perform a partial backup of the database using ptdbexp
- Perform a complete backup of the database using exp
- Create a backup of the file systems to a 4 mm tape using ufsdump
